Serious Magic
A relatively new company to the chromakeying arena, Serious Magic,
makes Ultra Key and Visual Communicator, both of which have chromakeyers.
But Ultra Key is the real powerhouse
of chromakeying featuring powerful one touch keying capabilities.
Serious Magic's Ultra Key is ideal for creating virtual
sets because it can pan and zoom on the composite image. Virtualsetworks
virtual sets are ideal for use with Serious Magic's Ultra Key
because they feature extra resolution for panning and zooming
on the composited image. Serious Magic's Ultra Key can also put
a video clip into a window behind the talent so that logos and
stock footage can be used in the set as well. Serious Magic's
Visual Communicator also can chromakey, and although it doesn't
have the keying capacity and virtual set capabilities that Serious
Magic's Ultra Key has, it does have the ability create presentations
over the internet.
Chroma Key Backdrops
Getting a good even color behind the talent is the first step
in chromakeying, this usually requires a chromakey backdrop in
the form of cloth or paint. Serious Magic also sells a blue or
green pop up chromakey backdrop which travels easily and is like
a popup windshield shade.
Another alternative is Chromatte,
a unique retroreflective material which is gray to the eye, requires
little or no light, and casts no spill on the talent because the
material is gray to the naked eye. But to the camera it sees it
as a perfect blue or green. This is because of the Litering,
a ring of LEDs around the lens which casts blue or green light
onto the Chromatte. Chromatte is also very portable in the form
of a Chromaflex, a 7x7 popup which
folds down into a 3 foot hoop.
